As I have in other cases\u2014I will help lead the effort in support of Texas\u2019 #SCOTUS filing today. Missouri is in the fight.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Schmitt\u2019s tweet came shortly after Ken Paxton, the attorney general from Texas, explained his motivation behind the <a href=\"javascript:void(0);\">suit\u00a0to Fox News\u2019 \u2018Hannity.\u2019<\/a><\/p>\n<p>He said that election management in Georgia, Michigan, <a href=\"javascript:void(0);\">Pennsylvania<\/a> and Wisconsin\u2014the states named in the suit\u2014directly impacted\u00a0voters in the his state. In particular, he pointed to changes that were made to expand mail-in voting amid the coronavirus pandemic.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"javascript:void(0);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wordpressdynamos.com\/timesofnewscdn\/USA\/f38fa_image.jpg\" alt=\"Brit Hume: Why Georgia runoff elections are such a 'big deal'\" \/><span class=\"overlay\">Video<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf other states don\u2019t follow the Constitution and if their state legislature isn\u2019t responsible for overseeing their elections &#8230;\u00a0it affects my state,\u201d he said. \u201cOur job is to make sure the Constitution is followed and that every vote counts. And in this case, I\u2019m not sure every vote was counted. Not in the right way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Paxton\u2019s case stands on the grounds of Article II\u00a0of the Constitution, which mandates state legislatures have the sole authority to manage and change election processes &#8212; a clause he aims to prove was\u00a0ignored during the 2020 election.<\/p>\n<p>The states named in the lawsuit called Paxton\u2019s suit a political stunt and downplayed its chances to be successful. Paul Smith, a professor and election law expert at Georgetown University\u2019s law school, told Reuters that there is \u201cno possible way the state of Texas has standing to complain about how other states counted the votes and how they are about to cast their electoral votes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Attorneys general from Louisiana, Arkansas and other states have reportedly announced their support of the lawsuit.<\/p>\n<p>The high court on Tuesday separately rejected another plea to intervene in the election, from Pennsylvania Republicans who wanted the court to undo the certification of Biden\u2019s victory in the state.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"javascript:void(0);\"><strong>GET THE FOX NEWS APP<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Jenna Ellis, a senior legal adviser for Trump\u2019s campaign, tried to clarify the court\u2019s ruling in a later tweet, and said it only denied an \u201cemergency injunctive relief. In the order, it did NOT deny cert\u201d and the suit from Rep.
