Obama urges wealthy donors to support Elizabeth Warren<\/a><\/h4>\n

Former President Barack Obama<\/a> has been encouraging Democratic bundlers to pledge their full support to\u00a0Sen. Elizabeth Warren<\/a>, D-Mass., should she win the party’s nomination<\/a> for president,\u00a0The Hill<\/a> reported Monday.<\/p>\n

Warren has publically blasted billionaires and big corporations alike and has\u00a0promised to not take\u00a0campaign contributions from either, instead focusing on\u00a0small-dollar contributions from the Democratic Party’s grassroots.\u00a0That move has caused\u00a0consternation\u00a0among some wealthy Democrats about what policies the senator\u00a0might push\u00a0should she become president. In response, one Obama ally told The Hill that the former president\u00a0is trying to\u00a0“rally the troops,” particularly\u00a0in the financial services industry.<\/p>\n

ELIZABETH WARREN CALLED OUT OVER PAST FUNDRAISER AT WINERY, OTHER EVENTS WHERE WINE WAS SERVED<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Obama\u00a0has refused to endorse any candidate in the Democratic primary race, which includes his former Vice President Joe Biden<\/a>. However, in private meetings, he has talked up Warren and made it clear he views her as a formidable and capable candidate.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe obviously thinks she\u2019s very smart,\u201d one Democratic donor said. \u201cHe thinks her policy ideas matter. And I think he sees her running the campaign with the most depth.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe appreciates her intellect and is impressed by the campaign she\u2019s run,” a former Obama aide told The Hill. “If anything, she has the most substantive achievements from his time in the White House<\/a>. And he\u2019s someone who can talk at length about her accolades.”<\/p>\n

Warren’s campaign did not immediately return messages from Fox News on Monday.<\/p>\n

Warren has secured the support of some former Obama campaign staffers. Last week, more than 200\u00a0lower-and-mid-level Obama campaign employees threw their support to Warren. She has yet to garner support from senior-level Obama hires like\u00a0former Secretary of State\u00a0John Kerry\u00a0and former Treasury Secretary\u00a0Jack Lew, who support\u00a0Biden.<\/p>\n

Warren has made income inequality a centerpiece of her campaign while pushing for an increased minimum wage and blasting corporations for not doing more to help American workers.<\/p>\n

She criticized fellow candidate Pete Buttigieg<\/a> during last week’s Democratic debate<\/a> for fraternizing with donors during his “wine cave” campaign fundraisers, leading to allegations that she was\u00a0trying to wage class warfare<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe mayor just recently had a fundraiser that was held in a wine cave full of crystals and served $900-a-bottle wine,\u201d Warren said.<\/p>\n

The senator was promptly\u00a0called out\u00a0over her past fundraisers, including a 2018 event at\u00a0City Winery Boston where singer Melissa Etheridge performed and donors paid $2,700 for VIP experiences and\u00a0souvenir wine bottles for $1,000.<\/p>\n

Others have criticized Warren for her own financial dealings, which they say runs contrary to her knocks on the rich. Recently released financial records<\/a> reveal she made $1.9 million from private legal work<\/a> going back three decades.<\/p>\n

After Warren’s swipe at Buttigieg, the South Bend, Ind., mayor said Warren accepted donations\u00a0from wealthy donors during her Senate run.<\/p>\n

Obama’s praise of Warren comes after the pair were said to have disagreements on economic issues during his time in the White House.\u00a0 In 2015, Obama was dismissive of her opposition to the\u00a0Trans-Pacific Partnership<\/a> (TPP) trade deal, calling her\u00a0“a politician like everybody else.”<\/p>\n

In 2017, Warren said she was troubled to hear of Obama’s six-figure\u00a0public speaking fees.<\/p>\n

While speaking at a private event on leadership in Singapore last week, Obama said women are\u00a0“indisputably better” than men, the BBC<\/a> reported. He did not mention Warren.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m absolutely confident that for two years if every nation on earth was run by women, you would see significant improvement across the board on just about everything … living standards and outcomes,” he said.<\/p>\n
