A boy died in a head-on car crash when a spider landed on his mother's hand

An 11-year-old boy in Wales died in a head-on car crash after his mother veered onto the wrong side of the road when a spider landed on her hand, British media reported.

Cloud Younger was driving her son Tristan Silver and daughter Branwen when the spider landed on Younger’s left hand and caused the young girl to scream, the BBC and Independent reported.

Younger tried to calm down her daughter but accidentally merged onto the wrong side of the street and rammed into a vehicle towing a trailer.

Tristan was in the back seat but suffered serious head injures, the BBC reported. He was airlifted to a hospital in Cardiff where he was pronounced dead, Metro reported.

The crash occurred in May 2018 in Ceredigion, and an inquest into the boy’s death occurred Wednesday.

Younger gave “no comment” to all questions from police when she was interviewed in June 2018. When asked if she had more to say, she responded: “If I could remember more, I would have said more.”

David Glyndwr Jones, a farmer who was driving the vehicle that Younger struck, said that his vehicle was almost at a standstill when the crash occurred, the BBC reported.

“At first it was straddling the white line, about a quarter of the vehicle on the wrong side. Then it came all the way over to my side and I could see it wasn’t going to stop,” Jones said, per the British broadcaster.

“All this happened in about six seconds – I just had enough time to warn my wife and brace myself. I feel devastated by what happened. I don’t understand why she didn’t see us and drive back to her side,” he added.

Coroner Peter Brunton called the incident “extremely sad and tragic” but no charges were pressed, the Independent and Metro reported.
