Here’s a video of Halo 3, via IGN, running on Xbox One X. The differences can be startling, with textures that were missing on Xbox 360 popping in on Xbox One X, and textures acquiring new depth. While it’ll vary from title to title how much of a difference it makes and what is changed, it’s still impressive to see.
Microsoft is keeping quiet about whether we could see this happen with other titles. It’s likely to be a pretty rare scenario, as it involves putting people to work on games that won’t make much – if any – more money. Even so, these aren’t just games from Microsoft; Ubisoft and Bethesda Softworks are two of the bigger publishers these days, and that’s a good sign. We could see more games like this if the demand is high enough.
Are you picking up an Xbox One X? And is the first game you drop in going to be the brand new Forza Motorsport 7, or maybe something a little more 2007?
The Xbox One X hits on November 7, and the updates for all these games will be freely available to anyone with the disc or digital ownership at that time.
