X-Men: Dark Phoenix won’t butcher the original story

When we look at how busy the Marvel Cinematic Universe is, it’s easy to forget there’s a whole other universe of Marvel movies that isn’t connected to Thor, Black Panther, or any of those other characters. Fox has been going hard on X-Men movies, and one of the upcoming mutant flicks could be the most ambitious yet: X-Men: Dark Phoenix. The Dark Phoenix Saga is a fan favorite among the X-Men faithful, but it’s also one we saw butchered in the original X-Men movie trilogy. With both of those in mind, it’s with trepidation that we look forward to the upcoming adaptation. One of the film’s stars, however, says we have nothing to worry about.

Alexandra Shipp, who plays Storm in the movie, spoke to Deadline about what X-Men fans can expect:

“[Fans] are going to be very happy – because I’m a huge fan of X-Men and so is our director, Simon [Kinberg], who’s also writing and executive producing it. He is not letting anything go. It’s very accurate to the comics and he really gives the fans what they’ve been asking for, in my opinion. All I can say is that you’re really going to like it.”
