It’s admirable that DC wants to give its directors room to move, but that all sounds weird. We’ve known since Man of Steel‘s release in 2013 that Snyder’s vision strayed from just about everything we love about these characters, so why is this just coming out now?
It sounds like DC Entertainment saying “Well, we made that bed, and then built a house around it, and spent a whole bunch of money decorating it, so I guess we’d better sleep in it,†as if they couldn’t have put on the brakes at some point and brought in a new vision more in line with what people like about DC’s characters.
Justice League, which hits theaters next month, will be the third Snyder-helmed DC film. While Snyder handled most of the movie, though, a family tragedy forced him to step away late into production. Joss Whedon stepped in and is credited as a writer on the film, and it’s unclear right now just how far-reaching his influence on the movie is.
Meanwhile, DC has been alternately finding success with other directors, as with Wonder Woman‘s Patty Jenkins, or struggling to keep a director attached to a movie, as with The Flash and Batman films.
With Justice League hitting in a post-Wonder Woman world, the league’s Amazonian member has certainly seen a big part in the movie’s advertising, and it’s possible Whedon’s influence and Wonder Woman‘s box-office take could’ve led the company to ramp up her screentime in the upcoming film.
We’ll find out more when Justice League hits theaters on November 17, 2017.
