How a best second-placed teams are ranked

All 9 organisation winners validate automatically. There are usually dual rounds and 6 nights of movement to go though there’s still a lot to determine. No organisation is nonetheless certain to finish second in their territory and usually in Groups C, G, H and we are a bottom sides already confirmed.

• Who needs what?

• Portugal and Switzerland are guaranteed to be a tip dual in Group B and whoever comes second is positive of a play-off spot.

What happens next?

The 8 best organisation runners-up enter a pull for a 4 play-offs hold in Zurich on 17 October, starting during 14:00CET. Teams will be seeded according to a FIFA rankings published a prior day, with a highest-ranked party in Pot 1 and a remaining sides in Pot 2.

The teams afterwards play on a home-and-away basis, with a sequence of a legs motionless by a draw. The initial meetings take place between 9 and 11 November, with a second legs played over a following 3 days. The leader of any tie enters a pull for a World Cup on 1 December.
