The handling of notifications on Android keeps getting better. Last year, Google added Direct Reply. That’s a way for those with Android phones and tablets to respond to messages without needing to switch apps. Rather than opening a different app, you can use Direct Reply to respond within a notification. For Android 8.0 Oreo, we have Notification Dots. They’re these little, you guessed it, dots that pin themselves to an app icon whenever a notification comes in.
Notification Dots are an extension of App Shortcuts, which also arrived in 2016. If you’re familiar with App Shortcuts, you’ll understand how the new feature works.
