The first Suicide Squad movie was a big hit for Warner Bros., despite how poorly received it was by fans. The company confirmed a sequel ages ago, but hasn’t given us a firm idea yet of when it’ll be coming along. That might just be because of continued director problems. Now, though, a new director is helming the movie and we’re hoping it might finally get moving. Gavin O’Connor, director of the MMA flick Warrior and the Ben Affleck movie The Accountant, is stepping in.
Mel Gibson was once attached to direct the sequel, followed by horror and action director Jaume Collet-Serra. Both eventually moved on, and it’s been almost a month since we’ve heard anything about the status of the movie. With O’Connor attached, maybe we’ll get a projected release date soon.
While the common thread among Marvel movies tends to be that they’re a bit same-y in look and feel, DC and Warner Bros.’ comic book films connection seems to be trouble keeping directors. A family tragedy forced Zack Snyder away from Justice League. The Flash has seen a whole laundry list of directors pass on the movie. Even The Batman saw star Ben Affleck vacate the director’s seat.
