Watch out, Olark. WhatsApp has confirmed it’s testing a new feature, which will allow businesses to use its messaging platform as a means of real-time customer service.
We don’t know a great deal about the tool, other than that companies can set working hours, a predetermined away message and canned responses to recurring questions.
To prevent phishing, WhatsApp is vetting businesses and awarding a verification tick to those able to confirm their identity by providing official documents, like bank statements.
The feature is currently limited to a small number of companies participating in the pilot program, according to WhatsApp, but will expand to more in the not-too-distant future.
