iOS 11 beta hints at surfing, dancing workouts for Apple Watch

Helping you keep fit is one of Apple Watch’s biggest selling points, so Apple places a lot of focus on its Workout app and fitness-tracking capabilities. Now the company is planning to add new activity options that will help the wearable appeal to an even larger market of fitness and sports fanatics. Although they don’t appear in the latest watchOS beta, references for them have been discovered in iOS 11.

Icons and code for badminton, barre, baseball, bowling, boxing climbing, core training, cricket, curling, dance, equestrian sports, fencing, fishing, flexibility, functional training, golf, gymnastics, jump rope, kickboxing, lacrosse, paddle sports, pilates, “play,” sailing, skating, skiing and other snow sports, step training, strength training and surfing have all been uncovered by iHelp BR.

New workouts that are available in the watchOS 4 beta, such as elliptical, high intensity interval training, and swimming also have new graphics in the latest iOS 11 beta.

Apple’s decision not to include certain activities in the watchOS 4 beta suggests the company could be reserving some for Apple Watch Series 3, which is expected to make its debut alongside the iPhone 8 this September. Recent rumors have claimed the device’s biggest upgrade will be LTE connectivity, which will allow you to use apps and receive notifications without being tethered to your iPhone over Bluetooth.

Other workouts could be available on existing Apple Watch models, but it’s unclear when Apple might activate them or if they’ll be ready in time for watchOS 4’s release this fall.
