Health Canada warns of suffocation risks of baby nests

Health Canada is warning a open about the suffocation risk compared with baby nests — small, unstable beds with soft, padded sides.

Also called baby pods, they are mostly advertised as multi-functional products that can be used as a nap surface, a changing pad or a stomach time mat. Some baby nests are also promoted as being suitable for bed sharing, that involves fixation a product in a caregiver’s bed.

Health Canada says a baby nest’s soft, padded sides poise a suffocation risk.

It says babies should never be left unattended in baby nests, nor should a nests be placed inside another product, such as a crib, a cradle, a crib or a playpen.

It also says babies should never be placed on soothing and disproportionate surfaces, such as customary beds, H2O beds, atmosphere mattresses, couches, futons or armchairs, all of that serve boost a suffocation risk.

Health Canada says a safest place for a baby to nap is on their back, alone in a crib, a cradle or a crib that meets stream Canadian regulations.
