Age of Empires IV is under development – strategy fans rejoice

Strategy fans, rejoice: Microsoft is reviving Age of Empires for PC. Age of Empires IV is under development with Relic Entertainment, the studio behind Company of Heroes and a bunch of Warhammer 40,000 games.

Microsoft was pretty tight-lipped on the reveal aside from letting us know that the game is real. The reveal trailer is purely concept art, without even a screenshot of gameplay to be found.

That doesn’t mean it’s free of useful information, though. The trailer featured a variety of different civilizations throughout history, from Roman soldiers and British Redcoats to Samurai to Native Americans. That’s a whole lot of societies from a variety of eras.

Relic says it “couldn’t be more proud to be a part of the [Age of Empires] legacy.”

“We can’t wait to tap into our strengths as a studio to fuse historical context with deep strategic gameplay and to bring this franchise back to the forefront of gaming and into the hands of its beloved community.”
