Despite its humble beginnings, the alt-right movement has been gaining national attention with its provocative message.

A white nationalist who was featured prominently in a Vice News Tonight story about the “Unite the Right Rally” in Charlottesville, Va., tearfully shared his fears of being arrested for his part in the violent demonstration in a video circulating online.

Cantwell says he heard there was a warrant out for his arrest and says he doesn’t feel safe venturing out in the wake of Saturday’s events. He offers to surrender peacefully to police if they contact him.

“I’m armed. I do not want violence with you, alright?” a visibly emotional Cantwell says, addressing police in the video. “I’m terrified. I’m afraid you’re going to kill me I really am.”

The white supremacist also becomes emotional when he talks about what he perceives at the unfair treatment of his group received after winning a court battle to obtain permits to hold the rally.

“I’m watching CNN talk about this as a violent, white nationalist protest,” he said. “We are trying to make this peaceful. We are trying to be law-abiding. And our enemies will not stop. What options do we have left?”

The tearful Cantwell seen in the video contrasts starkly with the brash, angry persona he displays on Vice News.

In that shocking episode, Cantwell describes the counter-protesters who injured when one of the far right-wing demonstrators drove his car into a crowd as “stupid animals” who “couldn’t just get out of the way of his car.”

“I think it was more than justified,” Cantwell said of the vehicle attack that killed 32-year-old  Heather Heyer.

Although there have been no reports that Cantwell has been arrested, he has faced backlash from companies like OK Cupid, Facebook, Instragram and PayPal, which have all removed his accounts.
