Nier: Automata was one of the many success stories from the first half of 2017. PlatinumGames and Square Enix’s Yoko Taro teamed up and created one for the ages, a beautifully told story about a war between androids and robots that just might make you cry.
Apart from reigning as one of the year’s best titles, the game also reportedly saved PlatinumGames as a studio, which had hit some hard times with the poor reception of its Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game, the middling success of Star Fox Zero, and the cancellation of Scalebound on the Xbox One.
These comments come from none other than Hideki Kamiya, one of PlatinumGames’ co-founders and director of Bayonetta and The Wonderful 101.

As translated by DualShockers, Kamiya says that Nier: Automata “brought to PlatinumGames a different fanbase, staff growth, a success story, an increase in excellent job applicants and a great benefit.â€
It’s not an exaggeration to say that PlatinumGames was saved by Yoko Taro. I cannot thank him enough.
