The first Dragon Age game, Dragon Age Origins, was a brilliant RPG that clearly took a lot of inspiration from the classics that made BioWare a staple of the RPG world. It was deep, open, and provided countless ways to interact with its world and bend its plot to your will.
Dragon Age 2 infamously needed another year in development to come anywhere close to being fun, and the recent Dragon Age: Inquisition stripped many of those defining characteristics for a more streamlined experience that ultimately came up way too shallow. I realize that the BioWare fanbase is sort of split on that game, but I am not on the right side.
It’s a shame because I want BioWare to start cranking out good games again. If it were to make another Dragon Age, I would need to be convinced it’s an RPG worth my time, as opposed to blindly buying it as I would have maybe ten years ago.
