Osijek claimed a biggest scalp of a turn in PSV Eindhoven, yet a 3 other European champions involved – Crvena zvezda, Marseille and Milan (the Rossoneri in front of a UEFA Europa League qualifying/play-off record 65,763 throng during San Siro) – all progressed to a play-offs.
Petar BoÄkaj’s first-half free-kick extended a Croatian side’s total advantage as PSV were eliminated. The other continental pretension holders marched on however, as did Athletic Club, Everton and Fenerbahçe, yet Bundesliga member Freiburg were knocked out by Slovenian group Domžale.
