Justice League’s troubled production just took a weird turn, as Henry Cavill’s mustache is reportedly making reshoots a major headache.
A Variety report details the issues surrounding Justice League’s reshoots, which we already know are being helmed by Joss Whedon. Apparently, the biggest challenge right now is getting the cast together. Stars such as Ezra Miller and Henry Cavill are currently working on other projects, making their availability more constrained.
While Whedon has apparently made their limited schedules work, it’s Cavill’s mustache that’s proving to be a big hurdle.
Variety reports:
Justice League’s Man of Steel had expected to be able to finish shooting the sixth Mission: Impossible film before needing to don Superman’s spandex again. That has not been the case, however, as the new scenes that are being shot have required him to jump back and forth from each production. Because of this, a mustache he grew for his character in the Mission: Impossible sequel will have to be digitally removed in post-production. Paramount, which is distributing the Mission: Impossible sequel, would not allow Cavill to shave the facial hair while production was taking place.
Only in the DCEU would there be a digitally removed mustache. Not to mention Variety’s report all but confirms Cavill’s Superman will be making a return in Justice League, as if the latest trailer didn’t make that crystal clear.
I know Superman is supposed to be clean cut, but what if they let him keep his facial hair? Imagine what that might look like. Or don’t; videos of Superman with a mustache are already floating around, and they’re hilarious.
The rest of the Variety report is worth a look, because it reveals what Whedon is focused on reshooting and why. But none of that info is as good as Cavill’s troublesome mustache.
For his part, Cavill has a pretty good sense of humor about the whole thing, which is among the more ridiculous bits of movie news we’ve heard in a while:
