Tesla’s Model 3 is arriving ahead of schedule

The biggest challenge for Tesla won’t be hitting a mileage goal or selling more cars than its competitors. It’ll be fulfilling orders. Musk said once the first 30 Model 3’s are handed over to customers, production will grow “exponentially.” By December, Musk is hoping to produce 20,000 Model 3 cars, with production to increase over the course of 2018.

Tesla has run into production issues before, so the next several months will be a huge test for the automaker. The Model 3 is the company’s first real consumer car, making it a hugely important release.

Tesla says the Model 3 is capable of traveling over 200 miles on a single charge, which is a key stat for consumers who are worried about range. It’ll also feature Tesla’s autopilot system, support for supercharging, and enough room to comfortably seat five adults.
