This is the best part about the Galaxy S8’s gorgeous design

For years, Samsung has plastered a prominent logo on the top of its devices, a practice it’s stuck with since flip phones were a thing. When someone was using a Samsung device, you knew it, because there was a logo right there staring you in the face.

The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus are different. Granted, there’s virtually no room to put a logo since the display bezels are so slim, which may be the main reason for the change. But, to me, it shows a confidence and renewed assurance from Samsung. It lets the devices speak for themselves; people will come to recognize them not because of a company logo, but on the merits of their designs alone.

Even the LG G6, which slimmed down its bezels, features a company logo on the front. It’s probably not a huge deal to most people, especially those who feel a strong connection to a particular brand. But the lack of a front-facing logo on the S8 means there are no out of place lines ruining the symmetry of Samsung’s Infinity Display.

There’s always the possibility a carrier will find a way to plaster its logo on the front of Samsung’s new phones, so we’re not out of the woods just yet. But it’s nice to see Samsung stepping away from this practice. Instead, it’s allowing the gorgeous design to be the central focus. Now, rather than two Samsung logos on one device, there’s just a solitary emblem on the back.

Sometimes, it’s the little things that go a long way.
