I realize that while Irrational Games might be moving on from BioShock, this does not necessarily mean that 2K Games is going to. BioShock 2 is secretly the most replayable of the three games in the series, and it wasn’t developed by Irrational, but rather 2K Marin, which also no longer exists. With the right talent, anyone can make another BioShock game.
But do we want them to? Some franchises are destined to go on forever since they have the ability to adapt and change to the world around them. BioShock never gave me the impression that it could break beyond the FPS barriers that kept it locked in place. What would it be? Open-world like Fallout? High-octane action with a savage Horde Mode? Simply another story with more powers in a new setting, the same formula all over again? Would it only be BioShock in name and not in spirit?
Would it even matter at that point?
Let Bioshock bask in the legacy of change it brought to the industry, and let developers use their talents to create a new franchise!
