Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia gets its first English screenshots

My stance on this is the same as with every remake

While I originally never wanted anything to do with them, I’ve come to appreciate remakes on their own merit and don’t dismiss them as inauthentic anymore. Just because its based on an older game doesn’t make it an illegitimate experience, and likewise, if a remake improves upon an original classic, that classic still has just as much right to be played as well.

They can both exist in the world so long as no publisher tries to pitch the remake as a “replacement” for the original. This goes for every game from Final Fantasy VII to Modern Warfare Remastered.

In Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia’s case, we don’t have the original game to make any comparisons, which is unfortunate. We’re missing out on a huge piece of the enjoyment that comes with this Nintendo 3DS release, and that’s seeing how it is brought up to modern standards. Nintendo can certainly fix this by letting its North American fans play the older Fire Emblem games in an officially capacity…

…but it won’t.

Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia will be released on May 17 for the Nintendo 3DS.
