Elon Musk says humans must merge with machines to survive

Humans can only communicate so fast, which is where computers have a leg up. A computer can communicate at a trillion bits per second, Musk explained, while the fastest humans can do about 10 bits per second.

Obviously, that’s a pretty significant disparity. If someone had to choose over man or machine, well, man would be useless. So, what’s the solution? A chip implanted in your brain? Your consciousness uploaded to a robot body?

What jobs will your kids’ kids have?

In the future, Musk sees a number of industries being disrupted by AI, from automotive to manufacturing. To some extent, these markets are already dominated by machines.

“There are many people whose jobs are to drive,” Musk said. “In fact, I think it might be the single largest employer of people… Driving in various forms. So, we need to figure out new roles for what do those people do, but it will be very disruptive and very quick.”

Musk went on to say there needs to be a symbiosis between human and machine intelligence, which may solve the “control problem and the usefulness problem.”
