Amazon announced on Thursday that Amazon Echo Tap owners can now bring up Alexa simply by speaking her name, just as they would on any other Echo device. That makes this product so much more desirable, since now it’s basically a portable Echo.
Amazon said customers can enable hands-free mode in the Alexa App by selecting a wake word. Just keep in mind that you’ll need a Wi-Fi connection for this to work, but given that most smartphones can provide one now, chances are you’ll have one wherever you go. It also supports ESP, which means if it’s in the same house as other Echo units, only the closest one to you will answer.
Amazon said Echo Tap owners can expect up to 8 hours of battery life, but recommends putting the device into sleep mode when it’s not in use to ensure longevity.
