Galaxy S8 Plus said to pack same size battery as Note 7

The Investor said this week that Samsung plans to outfit the smaller Galaxy S8 with a 3,000mAh battery and will pack a larger 3,500mAh battery in the Galaxy S8 Plus. Larger phones typically need larger batteries because the increased display size can be a real hit to battery life.

Ingredients for great battery life

Consumers should be excited by this news. The Galaxy Note 7, before it was finally recalled a second time and sent to the grave, offered excellent battery life that often got me through a full day of use. That means we should theoretically be able to expect similar battery life from the Galaxy S8 Plus, though it’ll also come down to other factors.

The new Snapdragon 835 chipset bound for the phone should be more power efficient, but we can’t just judge battery life entirely on the battery capacity.

Instead, we’ll need to wait for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus to hit the market so we can see how well they stand up to a typical day of use. I’m glad Samsung isn’t skimping on the battery, though.
