Everyone knows I love me a good video game introduction sequence. I’ve written about this many times before, but there’s just something so special about having an explosive introduction there to greet you every time you turn a game on.
Add Nioh to the list of memorable ones from recent memory. Two minutes of brutal, brilliant samurai action, great music, and incredible monster designs. Take a look for yourself and see what I mean.
Capcom used to spare no expense with an incredible introduction video, and all three main Onimusha games came frontloaded with incredible sequences. Nioh is somewhere in that category, and it’s a bit different from the crazy anime sequences found in Tales of Zestiria or the slick and the stylish from the Persona games.
There is more going on here than just CG, which is actually kind of standard for what’s out there now. It’s more about the content, how the video sets up a story with no words and yet focuses more on sizzle reel moments than full-on exposition.
