Resident Evil 7 is a hit with 2.5 million copies shipped in first week

Capcom is pleased with the direction that Resident Evil has taken with Resident Evil 7, and so are the fans, apparently. After being on the market for only a week, Resident Evil 7 is enjoying unilateral success again with 2.5 million copies shipped worldwide.

Capcom was sure to sing praises on the game, but it strangely focused on the graphics engine as the reason for its success.

…with the new RE ENGINE, a proprietary game engine developed in-house for this title, Capcom has pushed hardware specifications to their limits

As a result, the title garnered attention worldwide, with the demo version exceeding 7.15 million downloads — a record for the series — and the game selling more than 2.5 million units.

Wait a second! The marketing for this game was excellent, and the brand name is one of the most recognizable in gaming. Sure, the engine is pretty, but I don’t think it’s the reason the game sold so well. Looks like someone is looking to outsource a bit, huh?
