Tom Cruise may be the ultimate action hero, but sources say he is facing a rather awkward real-life Mission: Impossible – rescuing both his love life and his Hollywood standing.
Fresh from turning 64, the ever-youthful star is said to be flying solo, with no glamorous leading lady on his arm and only a few whispers linking him once more to Russian socialite Elsina Khayrova after their brief 2023 fling.
Meanwhile, his former flames appear to have received the memo about moving on – and then some.
Ana de Armas, his latest amore, has been packing on the PDA with musician Beto Montenegro; Katie Holmes, 47, is loved-up with artist Jason Bard Yarmosky, nine years her junior; Nicole Kidman has been soaking up the Portofino sunshine with new beau Michael Reinstein and Penélope Cruz has been happily married to Javier Bardem for 16 years.
Now, insiders have told the Daily Mail that Cruise is somewhat ‘frustrated’ by his bachelor status, no doubt not helped by the sight of his exes seemingly thriving – and why insiders are hoping he finds love before his next film drops.
‘Tom is frustrated that his love life has not been smooth because often he is lonely,’ a source close to the star told the Daily Mail. ‘He’s not desperate to find love, even though his close friend Victoria Beckham is always trying to set him up with a pretty young thing.

‘But I do know that Tom would love to get married again and have it last, he wants a solid relationship. Like anyone, he wants to be in love.’
Clearly, finding love is not a problem besetting his exes.
In Formentera, his most recent romance, actress de Armas, 38, was photographed packing on the PDA with her new man Montenegro, the 37-year-old frontman of Venezuelan band Rawayana, during a sun-soaked Spanish getaway.
It is a decidedly different picture from the reported nine-month romance she shared with Cruise, which began with London sightings in February 2025 and later took in private-jet jaunts, David Beckham’s 50th birthday celebration and a hand-holding outing in Vermont.
Neither confirmed the relationship, but insiders said the attraction became too messy to juggle with their professional ambitions – so they opted for friendship over fireworks. According to our source ‘it is hard for Tom to see her move on,’ but, they added, ‘he is happy for her if she is happy.’
And while de Armas was turning heads in Formentera, Holmes was delivering her own rather pointed post-Tom update back in New York.
Cruise’s third ex wife – after Mimi Rogers and Kidman – and the mother of his daughter, Suri, has been enjoying a new romance with artist Yarmosky – and gave it the ultimate glossy seal of approval by going Instagram official.
Holmes and Cruise became one of Hollywood’s most closely watched celebrity couples at the time, following their whirlwind 2005 courtship, lavish Italian wedding and the birth of Suri in 2006.

Yet the fairy tale ended abruptly in 2012 when Holmes filed for divorce, bringing the era of ‘TomKat’ to a swift and startling close.
‘What happened with Katie Holmes, that was a public humiliation,’ our source said. ‘I think it is hard for him to see her move on, but the truth is no one really knows, he doesn’t like talking about Katie. Everyone in his circle knows to not bring up her name.’
They said it is also ‘also hard on him’ that Suri is dropping his last name: ‘It’s crushing.’
Cruise has not been publicly photographed with his daughter since 2012, and reports have long said the pair are estranged.
Speaking of children, Cruise also shares Isabella and Connor with Kidman – the Australian Oscar winner who once looked every inch his perfect Hollywood co-star, before their marriage became one of the era’s most scrutinized splits.
The former couple met while filming Days of Thunder, married on Christmas Eve 1990 and adopted Isabella and Connor during their 11-year marriage.
Their 2001 divorce stunned Hollywood, and Kidman has since said she married Cruise young and ‘fell madly in love’ – despite being warned it could derail her career.’
‘He wishes things would have worked out with Nicole but they fought a lot and then they became super competitive,’ said our source. ‘Nicole wanted a top career and pushed very hard to get it, she is not to be messed with.
Cruise’s ex Nicole Kidman is said to have moved on with private-equity investor Michael Reinstein (Kidman and Cruise in 1998)
‘They would have epic screaming matches, the neighbors in their New York City pad would have to use ear plugs. These days he is just impressed with her career choices, and her Oscar, and in a strange way, he is proud of her. But he doesn’t miss her.’
After Cruise, Kidman found an entirely different kind of leading man in country singer Keith Urban.
The pair married in 2006 and welcomed daughters Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret, presenting a united front through nearly two decades of awards nights, red carpets and Nashville-meets-Hollywood glamour.
But even that marriage came to an end in 2025, with their divorce finalized in January.
Kidman has since spoken of ’embracing love’ in her next chapter, while reports have linked her to private-equity investor Reinstein.
The actress and Reinstein were first spotted in close conversation outside a Portofino hotel before he was later photographed collecting her from a Los Angeles airport in a black Ferrari.
Still, neither Kidman nor Reinstein has publicly confirmed they are a couple, leaving the actress’s Italian interlude tantalizingly undefined.
But the one that still haunts Cruise, is said to be Cruz.
The one that still haunts Cruise, is said to be Penélope Cruz (pictured). ‘He was really in love with her and wanted to marry her and have children together,’ our source said. ‘She dumped him and he was heartbroken. She was the one who got away’
The couple met in 2001, after his divorce, filming Vanilla Sky but later split in early 2004, with representatives at the time confirming the separation was mutual and amicable due to career pressures and busy schedules. Cruz went on to marry her current husband, actor Bardem, in 2010.
‘He was really in love with her and wanted to marry her and have children together,’ our source said. ‘She left him because he was just too famous, they couldn’t have a normal life. She dumped him and he was heartbroken. She was the one who got away.’
So Cruise has been left watching an extraordinary procession of former partners move on with newer, often younger or altogether different leading men.
It raises the obvious question: is Hollywood’s most famous bachelor able to settle down?
‘Tom has a hard time keeping a woman because he puts his career first,’ according to our insider. ‘Everything is about making movies, he is obsessed with the industry. He is also very devoted to Scientology, which can be an issue for some women who don’t follow the religion.’
A separate insider added: ‘Tom’s main love is making movies and that gets in the way of everything else that he does, whether it be relationships, friendships or business plans. To be in a relationship with Tom is something that many women either can’t or don’t want to handle.’
For now he is ‘totally focused on his movie Digger and campaigning for an Oscar.’
After four decades of high-octane star power, he has generated more than $13.3 billion worldwide and earned three acting Oscar nominations – for Born on the Fourth of July, Jerry Maguire and Magnolia – plus a Best Picture nomination as producer of Top Gun: Maverick.
His next major test is Digger (above) in which Cruise plays Digger Rockwell, a powerful Southern oil baron whose actions unleash a global catastrophe – but there are fears it won’t land with fans
Insiders have revealed that Victoria Beckham has tried to set Cruise up on dates
Digger will be his next major test, a darkly comic disaster drama from Oscar-winning director Alejandro G. Inarritu, in which Cruise plays Digger Rockwell, a powerful Southern oil baron whose actions unleash a global catastrophe.
The October release is his first non-franchise film since 2017, marking a return to the more dramatic work that helped establish him as a leading actor.
But there are concerns it won’t land.
‘The trailer has not had as many views on YouTube as Tom had hoped,’ said our insider who claimed Cruise’s unrecognizable appearance could hinder the films reception.
‘Marketing teams say fans don’t recognize him with the prosthetics, the gray hair, the fat belly, or the fans just don’t care, and they don’t know what Digger is about.’
They continued: ‘He will do a ton of press for the film and be out a lot to help garner interest in the movie, so look for a lot of TV interviews and magazine covers in September.
‘Hopefully he has a new girlfriend when the movie opens because it does help with publicity.’
While Cruise has spent a lifetime making impossible missions look easy, a romantic comeback may yet prove his toughest assignment.
The Daily Mail has contacted representatives for Cruise for comment.
