Gwyneth Paltrow is facing backlash over a report that she is set to host a private ‘off-the-record’ dinner party for AI mogul Sam Altman at her Hamptons home.

Invites for the rumored party will allegedly be sent out this week, according to Puck News, who also shared a photo of the purported invitation.

‘Gwyneth Paltrow invites you to a private, off-the-record al fresco dinner at her home in honor of Sam Altman,’ the alleged invite reads, listing a Goop-affiliated RSVP email address.

According to the invite, the event is to take place at Paltrow’s, 53, home on August 29, with cocktails beginning at 6.00pm followed by dinner.

The invite quickly went viral on Wednesday, triggering a wave of backlash across social media, with one commentator on X comparing the rumored event to ‘an episode of black mirror.’

The pushback comes amid public skepticism toward tech giants and artificial intelligence (AI) companies like OpenAI, where Altman serves as CEO.

The Daily Mail has reached out to representatives for Paltrow and Altman for comment.

‘Really drives home the fact that her organic, chemical-free, homemade food aesthetic was always about being elitist first and foremost. Sam Altman is literally poisoning the water, babe,’ another fan wrote on Threads.

‘I don’t think she really cares how she’s perceived politically. She’s part of the “billionaire class” and she enjoys it,’ someone else added.

‘Unless I’m forgetting someone, is Gwyneth at this point the most out of touch celebrity?’

Some questioned the purpose of the party: ‘In honor of Sam Altman” ??? Why??’

‘There is something funny to me about an off-the-record dinner with a guy who basically lives on twitter.’

Other fans wondered if the invite itself was generated by Altman’s AI technology.

‘this looks very ai generated and not very impressive or tasteful imo.’

‘AI fresco or Al fresco?’ another joked.

‘Rsvping to goop is sending me,’ another fan chimed in.

It comes after a new CNBC/Generation Labs survey that polled 1,088 Americans found that 45% of adults under 35 view AI as a threat to their future careers.

A majority of respondents also said they distrusted the leaders of major companies investing in AI.

Despite the skepticism around AI, Paltrow herself has embraced the technology.

Earlier this year, her company Goop announced an AI partnership with performance marketing platform Adora.

Paltrow also said she engages with AI ‘all the time’ while speaking with tech journalist Kara Swisher on her Goop podcast this year.

‘I find it incredibly useful,’ she said.

In recent months she has also covered a number of AI subjects on the podcast, including ‘The Future of AI In Health’ and ‘AI and Modern Dating.’

In a 2025 video for Goop she also spoke about sometimes using AI to create recipes.

‘Lately, I’ve been asking various AI platforms for help with that kind of thing. And it’s incredible the recipes you get. You could put in what I just said but ask them for an exact recipe and you’ll get something great,’ she said.

In 2024, Paltrow launched an AI-powered meditation app which unconventionally encourages users to keep their eyes open.

In May, Paltrow’s wellness empire Goop axed more staff while announcing a ‘pivot to AI’ just 18 months after massive layoffs.

In late 2024, the actress’s wellness and lifestyle brand implemented two rounds of cuts within two months, culling around 50 employees.

And earlier this year Goop let go of around 20 more, with the rationale of ‘profitability and AI,’ Puck reported.

The layoffs were apparently ‘justified via pivot to AI workflow,’ according to the tip line on Emily Sundberg’s Feed Me Substack.

The latest backlash comes after Paltrow sparked a wave of both criticism and praise after starring in a campaign for a luxury residential development in Israel in June.

Paltrow’s collaboration with Israeli real estate group Aviv Melisron divided opinions on social media, with several users accusing her of supporting the country’s war in Gaza and Lebanon.

One X account said: ‘Gwyneth Paltrow promotes $10M penthouses in Herzliya while Gaza burns and Lebanon bleeds,’ while another accused the celebrity of being ‘consciously uncoupled from morality.’

But other social media users came to Paltrow’s defense, praising her for remaining proud of her Jewish heritage and showing support for Israel at a time when there has been a surge in antisemitism around the world following Hamas’s October 7, 2023, attacks.

Paltrow has previously spoken publicly about her Jewish heritage and support for Israeli hostages who were taken into Gaza.

The October 7 attacks saw 1,200 Israelis killed and dozens abducted, and plunged the region into a devastating war.

Israel’s retaliatory offensive in Gaza killed tens of thousands of Palestinians and displaced most of the population of some two million, often multiple times, before a fragile ceasefire took hold in October.

Its latest war with the Iran-backed Hezbollah in Lebanon has killed some 3,500 people and displaced over 1.2 million.

Both campaigns have drawn allegations of war crimes and crimes against humanity, which Israel has adamantly denied.
