Blake Shelton takes a swipe at manager for making him miss wife Gwen Stefani’s No Doubt opening night show

Blake Shelton put the blame on his manager for making him ‘miss’ wife Gwen Stefani’s show on Wednesday night.

Around the same time she was performing at the opening night of No Doubt residency show at the Las Vegas Sphere, the country singer addressed why he was not there with a wisecrack.

‘My wife came to town. She’s here. I mean, she’s not. She’s over there at the other venue,’ he said onstage during his concert.

Shelton, who is currently in the middle of his own Las Vegas residency himself at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, complained about not being able to attend her show despite the close proximity. 

He kicked off the latest round of his own residency dates on the same day as his wife’s show and was only able to support her from afar.

‘What kind of a d***head books us the exact same nights every single night? I think my manager did that,’ he jokingly lamented to the concertgoers at his show.

At the beginning of the year, she performed at The Sphere for a technology event, and the couple had also been forced to shut down breakup rumors in the time since then.

Shelton, 49, will be performing an eight-show run for his residency titled Blake Shelton: Live in Las Vegas before wrapping up on May 24.

He previously played a six-show residency in early 2025 at the same place and said he wanted to return because he ‘had so much fun.’ 

Stefani, 56, reunited with bassist Tony Kanal, drummer Adrian Young and guitarist Tom Dumont on Wednesday.

The iconic group will be performing 18 shows in total with No Doubt until June 13.

No Doubt kicked off their residency by opening with Tragic Kingdom from their 1995 same-name album for the first time in nearly two decades as well as many of their other hits and rarely performed tracks. 

Shelton and Stefani have been married since 2021.

Stefani shares three sons — Kingston James, 19, Zuma Bowie, 17, and 12-year-old Apollo Bowie — with her ex-husband Gavin Rossdale. 

She was with the former Bush frontman for two decades and married for nearly 13 of those years prior to finalizing their divorce in 2016. 

Reportedly, Stefani’s three kids also did not attend her show because it was a school night.

His onstage quip comes after the couple shut down breakup rumors earlier this year; pictured in May 2024 

Shelton previously opened up about how he and his wife were preparing for their respective residencies in the time leading up to their opening night shows. 

He said that it would be ‘interesting because I’ll be in direct competition with my wife,’ he told People in late January. 

‘I’m excited about that because i know there’ll be probably a little bit of trash talking,’ he added. 

Referring to The Sphere’s 20,000-person capacity and The Colosseum’s intimate 4,000, he joked about how their ‘friendly competition’ had already begun. 

‘Whether we both sell out, there’s a big difference in selling out the Sphere and selling out Caesars, so she’ll have that over my head,’ he joked.

‘Yeah, it’s not very friendly when it’s absolute a**-kicking,’ Shelton admitted with a laugh at the time.

Shelton and Stefani previously met as coaches on The Voice in 2014. 

The following year, they confirmed they were dating and went on to get engaged in 2020 and tied the knot in 2021.
