Chargers QB Justin Herbert has rib cartilage fracture from loss to Chiefs
Thursday night against the Kansas City Chiefs and now find themselves dealing with their first bit of adversity during this young season.
Quarterback Justin Herbert suffered a fracture of his rib cartilage late in Thursday night’s loss. The third-year pro – regarded by many as a potential MVP candidate this season – will be listed as day-to-day, coach Brandon Staley announced.
Herbert sustained a hard shot from Chiefs defensive end Mike Danna and left the game for one play but returned to action and after the game received additional tests to determine the extent of his injury. It’s unclear what kind of a recovery timeline Herbert can expect.
The Chargers’ backup quarterback is Chase Daniel, a 13-year veteran, who has spent the bulk of his career as a backup, starting just five games.
