Andy Murray’s shoes – and wedding ring
After a day of angst, British tennis star Andy Murray is “back in a good mood” after his missing wedding ring was found and returned to him at the BNP Paribas Open.
Murray posted a plea for help on his Instagram account Thursday morning after he had inadvertently left his wedding ring attached to a pair of shoes he placed under his car overnight in the parking garage at his hotel.
The story had a happy ending though, as Murray updated in a new post Thursday afternoon.
“I had to make a few calls today and chat with the security at the hotel and everything,” Murray said in a video message. “A little update for everyone … Would you believe it? They still absolutely stink, but the shoes are back. The wedding ring is back.”
Murray had placed the shoes under his car in the garage Wednesday evening because he had worn them to practice and they were “pretty damp, sweaty and yes, smelly.”
The only problem was that he often ties his wedding ring to his shoelaces because he can’t wear the ring on his finger when he plays.
“I am an idiot,” Murray said in his original post. “Needless to say I’m in the bad books at home. So I want to try and find it,”
He was a bit more upbeat in the follow-up video, punctuating it with an emphatic, “Let’s go!”
Murray, who was married to Kim Sears in 2015, is slated to play his first match in this year’s BNP Paribas Open on Friday. Murray was given a wild-card entry into this year’s tournament and will face Adrian Mannarino of France.
