A nonprofit education group founded by Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush disclosed a full list of its donors Wednesday, a day after Bush released more than three decades of tax returns.
The former Florida governor created the Foundation for Excellence in Education after he left office and it served as a platform for him to push education reforms. Those include his advocacy for school choice and his support of the Common Core, a set of academic guidelines adopted by more than 40 states.
Donors range from the foundations tied to billionaires, such as Republican hedge-funder Paul Singer, former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg and philanthropist Eli Broad, to companies with a financial stake in education debates, such as Learning.com and testing and textbook giants McGraw-Hill and Pearson.
The amounts donated were reported in broad ranges only.
Bush, who stepped down as the foundation’s chairman late last year, said this week that the group collected $46 million over its eight-year existence “to advance proven reform policies at the state level to give more children the opportunity to rise up and achieve success in school and life.â€
The Associated Press first reported the release of the donor list.
