Novak Djokovic admits he deserved to be disqualified from the U.S. Open, but he can’t guarantee it won’t happen again.

Speaking to reporters for the first time since he was kicked out of the U.S. Open for accidentally hitting a line judge in the throat with a tennis ball, Djokovic acknowledged his reckless behavior.

“The rules are clear,” Djokovic said during a news conference in Rome ahead of the Italian Open. “I accepted it and had to move on. That’s what I did.”

The World No. 1 was trailing Pablo Carreño Busta 6-5 in the first set when he smacked a ball behind him in frustration, hitting the line judge in her neck.

“I cannot promise or cannot guarantee that I will never ever do anything similar to that in my life,” Djokovic said. “I’m going to try my best, obviously, but anything is possible in life.”
