Big Bang Theory’s Mayim Bialik Regrets Trying These ‘90s Fashion Trends

Mayim Bialik has “little desire” for fashion, but even so, the 44-year-old has donned some pretty epic ensembles over the years.

As part of Us Weekly’s Fashion Police series, the Big Bang Theory alum reacted to some of the ensembles she debuted in the ‘90s — at the height of the NBC sitcom, Blossom.

The actress doesn’t regret much, except for long white socks and oversized clothing. She considers these to be the most “unfortunate” thing about “90s fashion.” The San Diego native also regrets “jorts” and thick headbands, joking that when she looks back at some of those photos, she thinks she looks like a nun.

But besides that, many of her outfits from the ‘90s make her smile, especially one from 1991, when she was “probably 14 or 15.” In the photo, taken during a “personal photo shoot” she wears an elaborate outfit of a dress, leggings, tie-dye socks, Doc Martens and a big floppy hat with flower appliques.

“First of all, I still wear Doc Martens with dresses. I’m never giving that up,” Bialik tells Us. “That was my favorite hat. It was floppy and velvet and that was so ‘90s — that kind of vampy lip and it’s coming back now! I’m seeing people wearing the ‘90s lip and ‘90s makeup.”

Another one of Bialik’s iconic fashion moments was from the Golden Globe Awards in 1989 and it’s no surprise that she had a big reaction. For the event, she wore a “vintage white tuxedo” because her mom was into the way some “classic” leading ladies like Greta Garbo wore men’s fashion.

“A little ahead of my time wearing a men’s tuxedo,” she said, looking at a photo of herself from the event. “Now we’re like oh that’s so empowered, back then it was like ‘why is she wearing boy clothes?’”

That’s not the only time she wore a men’s inspired-ensemble! She wore one to the premiere of Beaches, too. “Interesting,” she said, looking at a photo of herself in a suit with a red cummerbund and matching bowtie.

“That suit that I’m wearing was made by my great grandfather who was a tailor from Poland,” she revealed. “So that’s actually a handmade suit that I also wore to my Bat Mitzvah which was the same week that this picture was taken!” Impressive!
