Ready for the Weeknd?
The red-hot singer who went straight from YouTube sensation to a major recording deal debuted his latest album, “After Hours,” late Thursday night. (Just in time for, you know, the actual weekend.)
“Starboy,” his last studio album, dropped nearly four years ago. While the years have passed, the sound we’ve come to know and love remains the same on the RB star’s latest outing.
Fans had already heard some of the 14 tracks “After Hours” has to offer, including radio favorites “Heartless” and “Blinding Lights,” which sits at No. 4 this week on Billboard’s Hot 100 list.
Apple Music said Wednesday that “After Hours” broke an all-time record, with more than 1 million pre-adds. Billie Eilish previously held that record.
Coronavirus postponements:Cannes Film Festival, ‘Friends’ reunion, Daytime Emmys join growing list
To promote the new album, the Weeknd, 30, has an upcoming global arena tour planned, with a first U.S. stop in St. Paul, Minnesota, set for June 22. (That could change, though, as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. A number of other performers have already suspended their tours until further notice.)
