The Giants also interviewed the Kansas City Chiefs’ offensive coordinator, Eric Bieniemy; the Baltimore Ravens’ defensive coordinator, Don Martindale; the former Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy; and the Dallas Cowboys assistant Kris Richard.

McCarthy was hired by the Cowboys, the Giants’ N.F.C. East division rivals. Another possible candidate, Matt Rhule, the coach at Baylor University, was scheduled to interview, but may now take the Carolina Panthers job, according to reports.

The Giants fired Pat Shurmur last week. Shurmur had taken over the Giants for the 2018 season and led them to a 5-11 record, a two-game improvement over 2017. This season, he handled the difficult task of benching the team’s veteran quarterback, Eli Manning, for Daniel Jones. The move seemed to pay off when the Giants won their first two games under Jones to improve to 2-2 and get fans talking about a successful season and a bright future.

But the team then reeled off nine consecutive losses and wound up 4-12.

This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
