Marvel surprised both fans and their star Scarlett Johansson when the company released the “Black Widow” trailer on Tuesday.

On Thursday night’s “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” Johansson revealed that she didn’t know the trailer was dropping until she got a text from Captain America (Chris Evans).

“Nobody told me that it was coming out,” Johansson said. “I actually woke up and I got a text message from Chris Evans, and he was like, ‘The trailer looks great!’ I don’t know what he was doing up at 5 a.m. That’s a whole other story.”

She added that she was just as excited as everyone else when it came out since she didn’t have any prior warning to the trailer’s release.

“They didn’t even tell me,” the “Avengers” star said. “Yeah, they keep everything from me.”

Marvel’s great at keeping secrets and even taught Johansson a thing or two when she had to keep mum about filming for “Black Widow.”

“I’m not a guarded, secretive person by nature anyway,” the jet-lagged star told USA TODAY in October, having recently flown back to the States from the months-long shoot in London.

So when journalists and fans probed for details about the “Black Widow” film, the actress found herself experiencing “a strange phenomenon of feeling kind of guilty … like you’re doing something wrong – I felt like I was having an affair or something and everyone suspected it,” she laughs.
