The Cleveland Browns have addressed a series of Twitter posts from the account of safety Jermaine Whitehead for the use of offensive and threatening language.

Following Sunday’s 24-19 loss against the Denver Broncos, Whitehead posted a string of messages directed at people on the website who had criticized his performance against Denver.

“Jermaine Whitehead’s social media posts following today’s game were totally unacceptable and highly inappropriate,” a Browns spokesperson said in a statement shared with USA TODAY Sports. “We immediately spoke with Jermaine upon learning of these comments. The Browns in no way condone that type of language or behavior. This matter will be further addressed internally.”

The messages came from an account that is not verified, @j2whitehead_.

It was a difficult outing for the Browns, who failed to execute in several areas. Tackling was one of those. In a 75-yard touchdown pass to Broncos tight end Noah Fant in the second quarter, Whitehead was the first Cleveland defender who had a shot to bring the rookie first-round pick down. Whitehead lunged, but simply bounced off of Fant, who broke two more tackles en route to the score.
