Move over Scarface, J-Lo is ready to be the next drug kingpin on the big screen.
Jennifer Lopez, who celebrated her 50th birthday this week, has lined up a new project called The Godmother in which she will star, produce, and possibly, direct.
The Godmother is based on the real-life Colombian drug lord Griselda Blanco, who rose to power in the Seventies and Eighties in Miami, Florida.

J. Lo and a bevy of models, actresses and designers descended upon the CFDA Fashion Awards and quite a fashion show they all made.

Griselda’s story gained the public’s fascination after it was featured on Cocaine Cowboys 2: Hustlin’ With The Godmother in 2008, part of a documentary film series.
‘I’ve been forever fascinated by the story of Griselda Blanco and jumped at the chance to play her on screen. She is all things we look for in storytelling and dynamic characters — notorious, ambitious, conniving, chilling,’ Lopez said in a statement to THR.Â

The film is being developed by STX Entertainment, who are behind other J-Lo projects such as last year’s romantic comedy Second Act.
While Lopez is known for her successful romantic comedies like The Wedding Planner and Maid In Manhattan, the talented actress has also appeared in various action and crime thrillers including Money Train and the excellent Out Of Sight opposite George Clooney.
J-Lo has played a member of law enforcement several times, including in Out Of Sight, Angel Eyes and her recent TV series Shades Of Blue, but has less experience portraying criminals like Blanco.Â

STX is also producing Lopez’s upcoming Hustlers, which opens in September.
In that film, Lopez plays the ringleader to a group of strippers who exact their revenge against corrupt Wall Street brokers.
Jennifer is also producing Hustlers, which co-stars Lizzo, Lili Reinhart, Keke Palmer, Cardi B and Constance Wu.

Lopez—who got her start as a dancing ‘Fly Girl’ on the sketch comedy show In Living Color in the early Nineties—can be considered a ‘triple threat’ since she acts, sings and dances.
She proved her acting chops early on in her career when she played Selena in the 1997 biopic about the doomed singer.
Since then, Lopez has evolved to become a pop megastar who still commands ticket sales as a top performer in both the music and film industries.
Lopez is engaged to retired Yankee baseball player Alex Rodriguez, and shares 11-year-old twins Max and Emme with ex-husband Marc Anthony.Â
