Can Joni Ernst boost shoe sales after rocking camo pumps for her response to the State of the Union?
Aerosoles, the company that makes the pumps in camouflage print, is promoting the Envy style on its website. “As seen on the State of the Union,†boasts the company in a new promotion that began Wednesday.
Ernst, the Iowa Republican and Iraq War veteran, told the story of how she only had one good pair of shoes when she was growing up.

“So on rainy days, my mom would slip plastic bread bags over them to keep them dry,†Ernst said in her nationally televised remarks. “But I was never embarrassed, because the school bus would be filled with rows and rows of young Iowans with bread bags slipped over their feet.â€
Aerosoles describes the Envy pump, with its 2 1/2? stacked heel, as a “classic beauty†that can be worn for work and special occasions. Features such as a tapered toe, padded insole and flexible diamond-patterned sole help make the shoe comfortable, the company says. Retail price on the website: $69.00
If you’re wondering what shoes have to do with politics, just ask Wendy Davis.
The 2014 Democratic nominee for Texas governor rocketed to national fame with her filibuster of a bill restricting access to abortions. Davis stood for 11 hours in the Texas Senate, all while sporting a pair of pink running shoes by Mizuno.
Mizuno told the Dallas Morning News that daily traffic to its website doubled after Davis’ talkathon, but the privately held company did not disclose sales data.
