The Motorola One Vision takes a page from Samsung with the punch-hole look

Motorola today unveiled the successor to its impressive Motorola One budget phone and it looks like a major set up. The Motorola One Vision, as it’s called, continues to be an impressive budget phone, and features an eye-catching punch-hole display.

The display is a 6.3-inch LCD panel, which Motorola calls CinemaVision, and is meant to deliver a truly cinematic experience with its 2520 x 1080 resolution and 21:9 aspect ratio. That’s in part due to its edge-to-edge finish that does not break at all, except for the punch-hole cut-out in the top left corner that makes way for the front-facing camera. It is also the first screen to use 21:9 aspect ratio with a hole punch cutout, and Motorola says they went for that aspect ratio as they see a lot more available 21:9 content.

The punch-hole is a departure from past Motorola One designs that opted to look very much like the iPhone. This time around, though, Motorola decided to go with a look popularized by the Samsung Galaxy S10e.

The Motorola One Vision comes with a dual-camera system that consists of a 48MP main sensor with f/1.7 and optical image stabilization, and a secondary 5MP depth sensor. However, you won’t see the full 48MP resolution in the images. Instead, Motorola says the camera will deliver 12MP photos and using a “QuadPixel” system that’s similar to pixel binning and combines four pixels into a larger one. This allows it to let in much more light. QuadPixel is also being used on the front camera to deliver 1.8µm pixel size, although you can disable it and get full 25MP images if you wish. Sadly, you won’t be able to turn off QuadPixel on the main rear camera.
