Japan currently is recovering from two major natural disasters. On Tuesday, the strongest typhoon to hit Japan in twenty-five years struck the cities of Kobe and Osaka, flooding Kansai International Airport and destroying the bridge connecting it to the mainland. It is expected to remain closed for the foreseeable future.
On Wednesday, a 6.7 earthquake struck the island of Hokkaido, knocking out the power throughout Sapporo, Japan’s fifth largest city, and causing landslides that engulfed entire houses.
