AT&T is raising fees for nearly all mobile customers

If you’re an ATT mobile customer, your bill is about to get more expensive.

ATT recently dropped $85.4 billion to purchase Time Warner and it seems it’s looking for new sources of revenue, so it’s honed in on its mobile customers. BTIG Research analyst Walter Piecyk noted that ATT raised the “administrative fee” tucked in the fine print of those long and confusing bills, from 76 cents to $1.99 for 85-percent of its 64.5 million postpaid customers.

That is the second price increase of the fee over the last three months, leading to an additional $800 million in revenue for ATT.

“This is a standard administrative fee across the wireless industry, which helps cover costs we incur for items like cell site maintenance and interconnection between carriers,” said an ATT spokesperson to CNBC.

The extra revenue ATT nets from the raised administrative fees will go a long way in recouping its investment in Time Warner, which increased its net debt to over $60 billion.

Unfortunately, there’s not much customers can do to avoid these administrative fees.
