Democrat Doug Jones, who shook the political landscape last month by winning a Senate seat in deep-red Alabama, will be sworn in Wednesday when the Senate reconvenes. Jones narrowly defeated Republican Roy Moore, who faced decades-old allegations of sexual misconduct and assault involving teenage girls. With Jones’ swearing in, the GOP’s bare Senate majority will shrink to just 51-49. Also expected to be sworn in is Minnesota Lt. Gov. Tina Smith, a Democrat appointed to fill the remainder of the term of Sen. Al Franken, who resigned over sexual misconduct allegations.
