“Too many times this year, it’s felt like we were living in a twilight zone, and I can’t think of a better moment to reintroduce it to modern audiences,†Peele said. As one of the major creative forces behind his eponymous Comedy Central show, Peele tackled a wide variety of social issues dealing with things like class, race, and gender, often using genres like horror to approach the topics. That approach reminds me of the original series’ creator and host, Rod Serling. Serling is best remembered as the staccato-voiced, cigarette smoking host, introducing each episode, but he was a major force behind it. The show would use fantasy, science fiction, suspense to tell stories about modern issues from a different point of view, often ending with a twist meant to drive home the idea. If anyone is fit to revive The Twilight Zone, Jordan Peele seems like the perfect choice.
CBS has tried to bring back the series a few times throughout the years without much success – I’m hoping this time will be different. The series doesn’t have an air date, but at this point I’d be willing to guess at late 2018.
