Both the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T, which were released in 2016, are now getting a software update that brings them to the latest version of Android. It makes the duo the first phones from OnePlus to get Android 8.0 Oreo despite the company just announcing new hardware last week.
Over the weekend, OnePlus announced that Oreo is reaching “a small percentage of users†with last year’s phones; however, the roll-out will greatly expand later in the week. It’s an incremental roll-out because the company would like to monitor the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T for any bugs. If a small number of devices are affected by a specific bug, OnePlus can step in to squash it before the masses experience the same.
These are the changes:
Aside from introducing Oreo, OnePlus hasn’t really added anything new of its own. And this is likely the last major software update for the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T. Owners of either phone will have to move on to the OnePlus 5 or OnePlus 5T if they want to stick with the brand while receiving future software updates.
What’s especially interesting is that these two 2016 flagships are on Oreo before the two 2017 flagships. The OnePlus 5 was introduced back in June, and it’s currently on Android 7.1.1 Nougat. Even the OnePlus 5T that launched just last week is on Nougat still.
OnePlus expects to have the same upgrade available for the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T in early 2018.
