With all the weirdness surrounding the DC Extended Universe films, perhaps the weirdest is what the studio is doing with the Shazam! characters. And the latest news is making it that much weirder: Dwayne Johnson’s character, Black Adam, might see his big-screen debut in Suicide Squad 2.
If you’re a fan of Superman and Batman but you’re wondering who the heck Black Adam is, it’s okay. The short version is that he is to DC’s Captain Marvel, better known as Shazam, what Joker is to Batman. Or, maybe more appropriately, what Reverse Flash is to the Flash.
Despite having virtually no cultural presence when compared to just about every other DC character’s arch-nemesis, he’s getting his own movie, because Dwayne Johnson gets to do pretty much whatever he wants (not that we’re complaining).
But how do you introduce a character like that? Being that he’s Cap’n Marvel’s big baddie, pitting him against the hero seems like a smart start, right? Nope – he’s not appearing in Shazam! at all.
