Volkswagen recently unveiled its vision for the future. The company is showing off its concept electric car, called the Volkswagen I.D., which could launch in 2020 with an impressive range and a fully capable self-driving mode.

The company says it plans to include a 125 kW electric motor that could give the vehicle a range of about 250 miles and up to 373 miles. Tesla’s Model 3 range is listed as at just 215 miles, but it’s expected to arrive a lot sooner in late 2017. The Volkswagen I.D. will also feature a retractable steering wheel for when autonomous driving mode is engaged.

VW didn’t include any images of the interior, but the exterior is on full display. It’s clearly going for a futuristic design, though all the regular elements of a modern car are still there. The company added that it’s developing a new “design DNA for electric cars.”

VW says its goal is to launch the I.D. in 2020 and sell a million electric cars by 2025, which seems like a reasonable plan. By 2025 self-driving technology is expected to advance to the point that many people won’t need to drive at all, and we definitely wouldn’t mind cruising around in this self-driving car once it actually hits the market.
