Update on Phoenix pay system problems

An update on the federal government’s efforts to fix problems arising from the Phoenix pay system is expected this afternoon from Ottawa.

Senior officials from Public Services and Procurement Canada are expected to deliver remarks and answer questions from reporters.

The government rolled out the payroll system to some 120,000 federal employees in February, and despite urgings from the public service unions to delay the full launch, the government rolled out the system to the entire public service in April.

Employees began reporting pay problems after Phoenix was introduced across the country.

By July, the government acknowledged more than 80,000 public servants have experienced some pay problems, with the majority being underpaid, while some have been overpaid or not paid at all.
